| With a view to meet the increased demand of craftsmen during the Second plan period the I.T.I. was started under continuous scheme of Govt. of Orissa during the year 1957-1958 with an intake capacity of 100 (hundred) trainees. Up to 02-10-1958, the institute was managed by District Industries Officer, Sundargarh as Officer-in-Charge of I.T.I., Rourkela. & then from 03-10-1958 to 21-06-1960 operated from Hirakud Polytechnic, Hirakud. |

| On 21-06-1960, the Institute was shifted to its own building at Rourkela. During the year 1960-1961 an expansion scheme was sanctioned with an intake of 106 trainees in Eleven trades under the continuous scheme. |

| Seeing the demand of Industries like RSP, OCL, L&T Kansbahal & other industries different trades have been introduced from time to time. Under World Bank Assistance for Vocational Training Project, improvement of infrastructure and equipments were made along with the staff training. At present under Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS) twenty one trades are being offered. |
